Visit to Adam's Garage

This monday we took a trip to the garage Adam and John Metric. These two have been converting EV's for several years now mostly in the form of extremely high performance drag racers. His typical electric cars compete in the 1/4 mile race, where his fastest car (Mazda Miata) reaches 60 miles an hour in 1.5 seconds. This beats out the fastest production car (Bugatti Veyron Super Sport) by a full second. The Bugatti typically sells for 2.5 million dollars.

We met with Adam at his garage where he was working on converting a 60's Volkswagen Square-back to be a daily driver. He walked us through the process of how he acquired the car and how he would go about converting it. He planned to display the car in EV shows so he was going to remove the rusted interior of the car and replace it with diamond plated steel and place a plexiglass window over the battery bay so that people could look into the car and see the LED lit battery compartment. Adam was planning on using heavy cheap lead acid batteries in the car and use cheaper pieces for his DC controller and motor. He estimated his product would be finished by the summer. Adam also warned us about the dangers of working with high voltage wire. The current we will be using in the car would be enough to melt metal and seriously injure any who touched a bare wire.
